Shaping the future by restoring the land. Our client in Petaluma is focused on maintaining habitat restoration work for the Land Management Division. LM implements and manages a range of different types of year-round work: civil construction, earthwork/grading, bioengineering, irrigation weed management, erosion control, revegetation/planting, and long-term maintenance projects. They are hiring an Estimator to join their team who will be responsible for collecting, analyzing and organizing cost and level of effort data; building estimates ranging in size from $5K-$5MM in size and various levels of complexity; working with project managers and superintendents in handing-off relevant information at the time of project start; growing client, supplier, rental company relationships & networking; developing potential work and reviewing potential opportunities. 

On the job responsibilities include:
  • Guide assigned projects from initial solicitation through hand-off to project managers 
  • Take initiative to gather additional information and work to provide complete cost evaluations 
  • Make reliable predictions as it relates to cost and be comfortable estimating all scopes of work 
  • Analyze public works bid packages in specific reference to prevailing wages, minority participation, and final proposal details 
  • Ensure that all components of an estimate are included in the estimate and that there is an ample trail of documented cost evidence 
  • Prepare conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility-level documentation 
  • Collaborate with project team members for estimate reviews, risk analysis, staffing needs and project requirements 
  • Read and understand permit documents from CDFW, USACE and other agencies when preparing an estimate

  • Thorough understanding of standard estimating process 
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications with emphasis on technical plans (schematics, grading, infrastructure, elevations, etc.) 
  • 2-3 years of experience as a professional estimator preferably within construction or habitat restoration required 
  • College degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Natural Resources desired
  • Proficiency with estimating database software (HCSS Heavy Bid experience highly desired), take-off software (on-screen take-off, Planswift, Bluebeam etc.), scheduling software skills (MS Project or Primavera P6) and general knowledge of MS operating systems, Excel & MS Word.
